Vegetarian Mushroom Gravy Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 16 oz mushrooms sliced
  • 3 tablespoons butter or olive oil
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • salt to taste

Method
 

  1. Clean mushrooms with a damp cloth and slice evenly.
  2. Heat butter or olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add diced onion and cook for about 3 minutes until softened.
  4. Add mushrooms and cook until they release moisture and begin to brown.
  5. Stir in garlic and thyme and cook for about 30 seconds.
  6. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir well to coat. Cook for 1 minute.
  7. Slowly pour in vegetable broth while stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
  8. Add soy sauce and black pepper.
  9. Simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until thickened.
  10. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
  11. Serve warm over mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
